Jax and Ranger have been doing so well living together that now they are practicing seperating from each other as they familiarize themselves with medical assist training.
Ranger has become old enough to begin meeting the boy dolphins! Jax, being friends with everyone, volunteered to be his first friend!
Delta, Jax, and Reese have been really proud of their medical behaviors lately. When they feel like theyhave done a good job, they love to go on a big dive in celebration!
Delta, Gambit, and Jax have been enjoying having access to the shallow pool on their side of the causeway by making fun games with their trainers by going back and forth through the gate.
Calusa and Jax have been great ambassadors for conservation! They have assisted trainers in cleaning up their lagoons, bringing plastic water bottles and other items to their trainers. Trainers do their best to keep the lagoons clean and free of debris that flows in from the gulf, but the dolphins also know that it does not belong in their home!
Jax’s 2025 Resolution: To keep people laughing by surprising them by spitting water instead of giving a kiss.
More recently, Gambit, Sandy, and Jax have been enjoying hanging out together both in-and-out of sessions. Jax and Sandy seem to be a calming presence for Sandy in the lagoon.
Delta and Jax love to play little games that don’t always have to involve training. They were playing a game where one of them would hold a leaf in their mouth and then the other boy would come up and take it in his mouth, essentially passing the leaf back and forth. They were so excited when they figured it out!
Last month, Dolphin Research Center had the honor of welcoming a group of wounded warriors in to meet the flippered family. Many of them connected on a very deep level with Jax, DRC’s own warrior. Many of them reported back that they would have never pictured themselves meeting dolphins, let alone one who suffered from PTSD himself. Jax left a huge flippered print on every warrior’s heart that day!
Creating art with Wyland, the ocean conservation painter, is always an exciting time. Jax and Sandy enjoyed taking turns to create art with him!
Jax usually gets the special honor of meeting wounded warriors when they come to DRC, as there is the possibility that they can relate to each other. With the last group that came in, Gambit was excited to be with Jax when they both put their tails in the warrior's lap to show the difference between their flukes. They both took off on a victory lap, once the warriors had a good look at their tails.
Gambit, Jax and Reese helped with our very first Dolphin Academy program! They aided with the training portion as the students put their knowledge of training to use working with all three boys training the behavior of “the world’s longest dolphin”.
